Reptile Lighting Equipment

Just as heating is imperative to reptile care, so is reptile lighting. Your reptile depends on you to see that they get the nutrition they require to live a healthy life. There are many things that can hinder the growth and health of your reptile. For example improper lighting can reduce the amount of calcium your reptile has. It can also affect skin by not offering the proper mineral production. Since reptile lighting is so important, we will discuss the variety of reptile lighting equipment available here for youright here at Reptile Heat Mat.co.uk.

Reptile lighting equipment can be placed in categories for what it will or will not do. The two categories include basking and regular lighting. We will look at basking lamps and lighting first. There are four main types of reptile basking lamps: fluorescent, halogen, day glow, and ceramic. Day Glo is actually the name of a product providing you with day and night bulbs. The night bulbs are dark like purple or red, providing infrared light rather than visible light. They are specifically for heating the inside of the cage at a direct point for your reptile to bask in. The heat and light waves will provide UVB and UVA like the other basking lamps without disrupting the natural cycle of your reptile.

Halogen and fluorescent bulbs still emit the UV rays, but they also offer visible light. These lamps will be a direct point lamp as well. The reptile can crawl onto the substrate or rock and feel the warmth from the lamp. It also gives the appearance of natural sunlight, creating a day and night cycle. You can turn the lamp on to act as the sun and turn it off at night. You could also go with the more sophisticated basking lamps that come with the day night controller in which it will cycle like a monthly calendar in which you have the moon as if it were full or on its way to being no moon.

Basking lamps as we mentioned are just one option under reptile lighting products. You also have reptile lighting products like the daylight strip or fluorescent compact bulbs. The strip lights sit up on the top of the tank and run the entire width of the tank. They will offer a daylight appearance so that you can see your reptile and they can get the nutrients they require. The light will help create D3 which improves calcium absorption. The strip lights have a black interior or reflector interior depending on which you prefer. These lamps work well for reptiles that do not need to bask in the sun.

Among the reptile lighting products you also have controllers. If you want to be able to leave the light on and have it turn off later in the day or night you can purchase a controller that will allow you to set when the light should be turned off. It can help reduce energy usages as well as other potential risks to the inside of the vivarium like fire or a breaking bulb.
